In an orchestral rehearsal of course everyone is working very hard. But once you get to the coffee break … and you know that’s when gossip goes on and the orchestral profession is a very friendly one…and there is all sorts of gossip to be heard.
Well I suddenly found myself having to ask people to repeat what they said to me. When I realised that I was being excluded…only a little bit. But nevertheless I felt I was being excluded from jokes and little comments all the time. For me it was a huge barrier and I really just had to come to terms and to recognize that I needed some assistance.
I just took the phone number of that company Hidden Hearing, and they came to see me and prescribed what was necessary. And both my family, which is quite large, and my friends I think they are all relieved that I have done something.
